This year, a record number of specially prepared venues around the world were organized for the Dictation participants. In Russia, 10,386 venues expressed their desire to join the campaign, and 237 venues in 109 foreign countries joined the campaign abroad.
The international educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society "Geographical Dictation" for the ninth time brought together residents of different countries interested in geography, natural and cultural heritage of Russia. Hundreds of thousands of people took part in the event on all continents of the Earth and even in space! The central Dictation Venue was the Shuvalov Building of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The participants answered 40 interesting questions prepared by experts, partner companies of the Russian Geographical Society, as well as geography enthusiasts as part of the "Write Your Question for the Geographical Dictation" contest. Among all the participants, the authors of the five most interesting questions were selected. At the central venue of the Geographical Dictation, at Lomonosov Moscow State University, an award ceremony was held for one of the winners: Arina Zaikina from Volgograd. Three runners-up of the contest were also awarded. One of them was Roy Sanjib Dutta from Patna, India. And he came to Moscow to participate in the Geographical Dictation in-person!
This year's tasks were announced by theater and film actor Dmitry Kharatyan; TV presenter, journalist, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation on Information Policy Anastasia Chernobrovina; as well as singer and composer, People's Artist of Russia Oleg Gazmanov.
Specially for the participants of the Dictation, a welcome speech was recorded by the crew members of the International Space Station (Konstantin Borisov, Oleg Kononenko, and Nikolai Chub)
and representatives of other exciting venues of the Geographical Dictation: the “Progress” polar station in Antarctica, the Taurida Cave, the highest mountain hotel in Russia "Leaprus", the sculpture complex "Center of Asia", the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Barentsburg (Svalbard), the Vostochny Cosmodrome, the Yaroslavl Region Federation of Aeronautics, and the Circumnavigation Expedition of the Tomsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. In addition, Konstantin Kelarev, captain of SUAL’s nuclear icebreaker “Siberia”, addressed the participants of the Dictation.
At the desks in the audience, you could see the players of the popular TV program “Chto? Gde? Kogda?” (eng. "What? Where? When?") and “Svoya Igra” (eng. "My Game"), including Anatoly Wasserman, and feel like a member of the club of intellectuals.
Those who did not have time to test their strength in-person and at remote venues on November 19 can take the Extra Version of the Dictation on the website dic.rgo.ru until 14:00 on December 1.
Registration is not necessary, and the result is known immediately after completing all tasks. Please note that a participation certificate for taking the Extra Version is not provided.
